DURKEE - SEAGER
POST 550
IN THE
BEGINNING
In 1947 veterans of our surrounding
community came together to form an American Legion Post, joining the largest of
Veterans organizations.
To those present at the meeting was given the task of
picking a name for the post. They decided to name the Post after the first
casualty of World War I, and the first casualty of World War II, as veterans
from both wars would be represented in the Post. Frank Durkee was a
casualty of World War I, a resident of Cambridge Township. Donald Seager
was the first casualty of World War II, a resident of Rome Township.
